If there is no purpose in this life, if I peg and disappear, the human condition is untenable.

Pick up some Leopardi, me boy. In translation (Italian to English). You sound as though you're ready to enjoy the greatest pessimist of all time. And what a hell of a writer. (Early 1800's) Not to be missed are some of his Operette Morali, often published as one book.

If you no like, I refund whole price, I do hereby swear most emphatically.

Ahem, excuse me. My lawyer here is tugging at my shirtsleeve saying we will not honor the pledge in case of first editions or anything else of a rare variety of book. Cough, sputter. Thank you.

What you intended to admit is "life without approval is untenable."

Your simple but impossible task is to accumulate as much approval as you give.

Fairly common old Roman grave inscription: "NFFNFNC"

non fui, fui, non fui, non curo

I was not, I was, I was not, I care not.

I was cognizant
Capable
My existence was acknowledged
My work was recognized
That was sufficient

I saw clarity
I absorbed brilliance
That was joy
Beyond measure

damn it Ed. Some new category of existentialism for you?

doubt it.

not called for.

a point of view is a neuro-biochemistry these days or in earlier a certain combination of the humors.

we who are melancholic point no fingers and expect no slack.

"damn it Ed. Some new category of existentialism for you?".........k+

No, Kap, it's a continuation of the premise that the man's work is more important than the man.

I see no asking or giving of quarter in measuring one's own life or that of another relative to the results of that life.

Your self-measure is no doubt more demanding than that of your friends.

"I came

.....Highway

Vercingetorix tried that and it didn't work.

Maybe Manuela can help you reincarnate as a Blue Tick pup.

Let's not lose sight of the accepted POV that we share DNA with the original accidental amoeba. Then indirectly all is an accomplishment of that accident, like walking on the moon 40 years ago, to get current...

We are all expressions of primordial electro-chemical effluent. All hail to the Great Nucleotit! Now go read the fine print on copyright enshrined in your DNA...
